An Introduction to Juicing - Getting the Best from Fruits and Vegetables -
Machines
You probably have one of
the required machines - a blender. If you have you are well on your way. The jug
type ones are the best. What you may not already have is a juicer, and this is
completely different from a blender.
There are a number of types of juicers, but what they do is extract the juice
from the fruit or vegetable, leaving only the fibres. This means as much of the
goodness of the plant is taken out, goodness we might otherwise have missed.
The most commonly used juicer works through centrifugal force. The fruits are
fed into it where they are shredded by a spinning plate, the juice runs out one
end of the machine and the detritus is spat out the other. These machines can
start about thirty to forty pounds and upwards.
A more serious juicer is the masticating machine (such as the Champion 2000+ Masticating Juicer ) which does the job to
perfection, extracting practically all moisture and leaving the driest of pulp.
But these are pricey, and you may not want to spend hundreds of pounds just yet!
I myself have a cheaper machine which cost me £39 and does the job for me. Maybe
in time I'll want one of the high end machines, but this does fine at the
moment.
