An Introduction to Juicing - Getting the Best from Fruits and Vegetables

In this new section, I want to share, as I go along the road myself, the world of juicing and raw foods.

I recently got into this by chance. I had been wrestling with an orange, trying to make a fresh orange juice and I thought, isn't there a machine that will do this? So I googled for a juicing machine, and discovered a whole new world!

At first I had merely wanted something to make nice simple juices for the summer (as I am conscious that fizzy drinks are not really the best thirst quenchers) but I discovered that, if done properly, juicing fruits not only gives you some mouth-watering results, but has highly beneficial health properties too.

From this, I learned you can juice just about anything! From apples to cucumbers, carrots to ginger root! And boy, does this open up an exciting avenue to play around with the taste buds.

But much more important is this. Are you aware that cooking your veg is murder? Murder on the vegetable, and on your body? Everyone thinks a pot of homemade soup is about the healthiest thing you can do with vegetables.

WRONG! It is the WORST!

You could consume the whole pot and it is doubtful if you would get much out of it except the salt you added. Make no soup bones about it, you are eating dead food. You are not replenishing your system at all, and in fact, you are just giving your body a lot of wasteful work to do getting rid of it. It is this process of detoxification and waste-disposal that makes you sleepy after a heavy meal as the poor old body works like crazy to clean you up!

A better way to get your nutrients is to take them in a form that is a: Tasty b: Efficient c: Quick acting, less wasteful d: Doesn't mean your body has to produce loads of enzymes to do the job.
