Tribute to
John O Young
A true Gentleman, Artist and Son of the Clyde

John O Young

In the years that Clydesite has been running, one man will be remembered more than any other for his wit, decency, skills in writing and in oils, as well as his astonishing life taking him from his boyhood home of Greenock, to the perils of the WW2 Convoys, then to South Africa and finally settling in Canada.

His life journey is like many Scots before and after him who struck out into the wider world and left their mark. John did so remarkably and in his latter years we here at Clydesite benefitted from his knowledge, memories and unique style that saw him unanimously conferred the title of Site Patriarch.
This small section of the site is in tribute to John and using his paintings we hope that the world will appreciate a man who loved his Clyde all through his life. These remarkable paintings convey his passion for the sea, ships and most importantly the River of his youth as well as showcasing his talents as an artist.

John passed away in 2010, but he will never be forgotten by his many friends at home and overseas.
Texts that accompany each painting are kindly provided by Angus Mac Kinnon of Troon. Click on each picture below to see a larger version and read the notes.
