Remarks: Chaucer was one of a large fleet of paddle steamers built for London C C for a kind of waterbus service on the Thames. 10 of them were built at Yoker. Others very built by Thornycroft at Southampton and at Blackwall on the Thames. The engines and boilers for many of the vessels were built by Scott's at Greenock. This view shows Chaucer off the Cloch returning from trials on the Firth. The service was of limited success and the vessels were widely dispersed
