Port of Registry: Liverpool Propulsion: Steam 2cy 280nhp 13kn .......... 1882 reengined steam compound Launched: Thursday, 03/03/1870 Built: 1870 Ship Type: Iron Passenger Vessel Tonnage: 3376 Length: 363 feet Breadth: 42 feet Owner History: British and North American Royal Mail Steam Packet Cunard from 09/07/1878 Status: Destroyed by Fire - 18/12/1891 Remarks: The company was renamed Cunard Steamship Company in 1886.
She started her maiden voyage on 24th May 1870 when she left Liverpool for Queenstown (Cobh) and New York. 1880 returned to builders in part payment for the new ships SERVIA and CATALONIA. Sold to the Guion Line, she commenced Liverpool~Queenstown~New York sailings. 1882 fitted with compound engines. 1887~1891 she ran on the Pacific for Canadian Pacific Line. Resumed Liverpool~Queenstown~New York in Nov 1891 but was destroyed at sea by fire in Dec 1891 1300nm E of New York . All the passengers and crew were rescued by the German liner SPREE.
