Remarks: Maiden voyage 21st January 1928. The first of five important ships. They were a great improvement on previous freighters and set the standard for ships to follow. Although motorships were becoming popular, steam turbines were chosen and this class proved to be the most efficient steam vessels of their day. Sadly all of this class of ship were sunk during WW2. BEAVERFORD was part of the convoy which the JERVIS BAY distinguished herself by drawing the enemy to her and away from the convoy. She was sunk not long after JERVS BAY after several hours of holding ADMIRAL SCHEER at bay. All of the 77 souls on board perished.
