ss CITY OF ANTWERP built by Tod & McGregor Glasgow, Yard No 137 Last Name: THANEMORE (1879) Propulsion: steam. After being sold to Johnstone Line she had new compound engines fitted. Launched: Thursday, 08/11/1866 Built: 1867 Ship Type: Passenger Vessel Ship's Role: Transatlantic voyages Tonnage: 2391 grt Length: 332 feet Breadth: 39.4 feet Owner History: Inman Line Liverpool: Ship sold to Johnstone Line 1879 Status: Sunk - 1890
Remarks: Maiden voyage Liverpool Queenstown New York on February 20th, 1867. After being sold to Johnstone Line she was rebuilt to 3032 grt. She went missing in November of 1890, it is presumed she struck and iceberg and sank with 43 lives. Photo supplied by Stuart Cameron
