Sunk Today 1885: ss CITY OF PARIS built by Tod & McGregor Glasgow, Yard No 134 Last Name: TONQUIN (1884) Propulsion: steam. New compound engine by G. Forrester & Co, Liverpool in 1879. Launched: Wednesday, 13 December 1865 Built: 1865 Ship Type: Passenger Vessel Ship's Role: Transatlantic voyages Tonnage: 2556 grt Length: 346 feet Breadth: 40.4 feet Owner History: Inman Line Liverpool Status: Sunk - 04/03/1885
Remarks: Maiden voyage Liverpool Queenstown New York 21st March 1866. She broke the records for the passage to Halifax from Queenstown in August of 1869. The following yearshe had an extensive rebuild, her tonnage increased to 3500 grt and lengthened to 398 feet. Sold in 1884 to French owners she was sunk the following year after a collision off Malaga.

Remarks: Sunk by gunfire during a naval raid on the Lofoten Islands.

Scrapped Today 1947: HMS WINDSOR built by Scotts Greenock, Yard No 486 Propulsion: geared turbines, two shafts, 30000 HP, 34 knots Launched: Friday, 21 June 1918 Built: 1918 Ship Type: V & W Class Destroyer Tonnage: 1188 tons Length: 312 feet Owner History: Royal Navy Status: Scrapped - 04/03/1947
Remarks: Pressed into service as a short range escort in WW2 as the navy made use of every available ship. This destroyer took the Netherlands government to the UK on the 13th May 1940, three days after their country was invaded by Germany.
She was sold on the above date for scrap
