Remarks: Struck a mine in the North Sea.

Sunk Today 1944: HMS WOODPECKER built by William Denny & Brothers Dumbarton, Yard No 1359 Propulsion: steam turbines, 20 knots Launched: Monday, 29 June 1942 Built: 1942 Ship Type: Sloop Tonnage: 1250 tons Length: 229.5 feet Breadth: 38.8 feet Owner History: Royal Navy Status: Sunk - 27/02/1944
Remarks: While under the command of Cdr H.L.Pryse, RD,RNR on Antisubmarine duty, on 20th February she was torpedoed by a Uboat which blew her stern off. She was taken in tow but sank on 27th with no loss of life. Additional data by Colin Campbell Previous update by Stuart Cameron
