Remarks: Vessel stranded on Pelsart Shoal Island and "became a complete wreck"

built by Charles Connell & Company Scotstoun, Yard No 410 Propulsion: steam, turbine, 13 knots Built: 1928 Ship Type: Passenger Cargo Vessel Tonnage: 5881 grt Length: 420 feet Breadth: 54.5 feet Draught: 30.4 feet Owner History: Charente S.S Co Ltd (T & J Harrison) Liverpool Status: Torpedoed & Sunk - 16/12/1942
Remarks: Whilst under command of Capt J Davidson, she was sunk by Uboat 350 miles of Cape San Roque, Brazil. Out of her crew of 81, 66, including her captain, were killed. Previous update by Bruce Biddulph U176 responsible for forementioned attack in posn 05,30S 31,00W. Vessel on voyage from Table Bay to Baltimore with chrome ore.

Sunk Today 1940 WESTERN PRINCE
built by Napier & Miller Old Kilpatrick, Yard No 267 Propulsion: 16.5 knots Launched: Thursday, 20 June 1929 Built: 1929 Ship Type: Passenger Cargo Vessel Tonnage: 10926 grt Length: 514 feet Breadth: 64 feet 11 inches Owner History: Prince Line Status: Torpedoed & Sunk - 16/12/1940 Web site: http://www.clydeshipping.co.uk/viewpic.asp?id=899&album=Napier+%26+Miller+%2D+Clyde+Shipbuilders Remarks: Sister of the EASTERN PRINCE Torpedoed by U boat 96 after departing New York on the 12th December about 400 miles west of the Orkneys. 16 lives lost, 154 rescued.
